Immigrate to Canada through the Express Entry Program: More and more people are interested to migrate to Canada given the advantages of living in the said country, and of course, being a Canadian. There are different pathways one can go through to become a permanent resident, and one is via the Federal Express Entry Program.

The Federal Express Entry Program is a system used by the government of Canada to manage applications of those who want to become a permanent resident of Canada. The system mainly selects or offers an invitation to apply (ITA) to candidates who are able to reach the required score. The score changes every time a draw is made and the last cut off score was at 471 for a draw made last March 4, 2020.

As the system uses a pointing system to determine whether a candidate is skilled and qualified and can fill the labor/economic gaps, there are several factors and different points awarded depending on a candidate’s credentials. Below are the factors to be assessed and weighted for scoring:

Main Applicant

Age – You may get a maximum of 100 or 110 (without a spouse); this decreases as you get older

Level of Education – You may get a maximum of 140 or 150 (without a spouse)

Official Language Proficiency – You may get a maximum of 150 or 160 (without a spouse)

Canadian Work Experience – You may get a maximum of 70 or 80 (without a spouse)

Spouse of the Applicant

Level of Education – Maximum of 10 points

Official Language Proficiency – Maximum of 20 points

Canadian Work Experience – Maximum of 10 points

Skill/Transferability Factors

With above-average official language proficiency and a post-secondary degree – maximum of 50 points

With Canadian work experience and a post-secondary degree

Foreign Work Experience

With above-average official language proficiency (CLB 7 or higher) and foreign work experience – maximum of 50 points

With Canadian work experience and foreign work experience – maximum of 50 points

Certificate of Qualification – for those in trade occupations

With above-average official language proficiency and a certificate of qualification – a maximum of 50 points

Additional Factors

Brother or sister living in Canada (PR or Citizen) – 15 points

French language skills – 30

Post-secondary education in Canada – 30

Arranged employment – 200

Provincial Nomination – 600
